When gaming is the name of the…well…game, it is hard to look past Linksys, they have home been in the home and office networking space for over two decades and know everything there is to know about keeping you connected. Their WRT32X Gaming Router is another page in the stellar novel that is their product line and is one of the few quality routers available that has been engineered purely for gaming.
This dual band offering can deliver Wi-Fi speeds up to 3.2 Gbps and keep you at the top of your game with some of the best networking technology currently available on the market. This includes a 1.8ghz dual core processor paired with four high performance antennas providing strong coverage throughout your home with the cherry on top being the latest MU-MIMO, Wireless-AC technology for simultaneous streaming and gaming on multiple devices. Hardware wise, and par for the course with this type of router, you also get Gigabit Ethernet ports and even a future proof USB 3.0 port to add external storage or share files with.
Now, most “gaming” routers share a lot of these features, so what makes the WRT32X different? Well, Linksys have partnered with Killer Networking, industry leaders in gaming networking, to create their Killer Prioritization Engine which prioritizes gaming traffic above all other devices on the network and offers some serious speed enhancements. In fact, when partnered with other Killer PC’s from the likes of Alienware, Razer and such, the engine reduces peak ping times by up to 77% and deliver smooth, lag-free gaming.
This enhancement also applies to other areas in the gaming world such as video and audio chat and large file downloads which is thanks in part to Linksys’ own gaming-optimized firmware that constantly works to minimize response times and lag during those epic gaming sessions. Another welcome addition to the WRT32X is DFS Certification which effectively doubles bandwidth from 80 MHz to 160 MHz on all spatial streams.
Lastly, Linksys’ own web interface allows for easy set-up and customization of the networking to your liking and the promise of consistent firmware upgrades means that your network only gets better with time as ours did during our testing period, with two updates in a 3-month span.
As far as performance goes, this thing is seriously fast. We were shocked at the improvement over CPU intensive and network reliant games. Lag was virtually gone, and it reduced our Ping significantly. We will also mention that while most gamers will likely hardwire into this router, Wi-Fi speed and reach are also above average and can fulfill the needs of a small to mid-sized home.
If you want simply the best gaming experience over your home network then it is hard to look past the WRT32X, it delivers consistent fast speeds and a smooth gaming experience that all consumers, especially gamers, can appreciate.
