With our eyes constantly glued to our smartphone screens, its nice when a product comes along that prompts us to go on living our lives yet still gives us the convenience of receiving those notifications that matter most. FUN’IKI glasses are a pair of fashion only spectacles that are linked to your smartphone, that uses built in LED lights + sound signals from a micro speaker to notify you with important information without having to check your cellphone every minute.
The one size fits all frames feature a simple but elegant design that feature 9 full color LED’s built into the frame. The lights are customizable depending on the notification you receive and are very easy to set up using the proprietary IOS or Android app. You can be notified of new emails, social media updates, schedule reminders, and even movements in stock prices. There is also a convenient micro speaker built in that can chime when there is a programmed alert.
The glasses connect wirelessly to your smartphone using Bluetooth 4.0 and features a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. It also features a very clever acceleration sensor which can be used with the timer to indicate time left or time remaining, a clever addition for those that may want to wear these during a workout and store your phone in your arm sleeve.
So, the big question is, are they any good? Conceptually, these are an original idea but unfortunately a little gimmicky. They are easy to set up using the app and they do work as advertised but the one style fits all approach didn’t necessarily work with our faces and in the world of peripheral devices like the smartwatch, this sadly is just something else to worry about charging and doesn’t bring anything new to the game. We do appreciate that the company is trying to find a way to divert our attention from our screens and focus on life and for that we must give the folks at FUN’IKI props for that. We would love to see their approach brought over to reading spectacles as that may shake up that market a little.
