For many years now, light and sound meditation systems have been sold with the promise of bringing consumers peace of mind in the comfort of their own home. Light and Sound Mind Meditation provided by devices like the Mind Media System work by utilizing a special high frequency signal which directly controls the lights in a session, allowing precise synchronization between audio and visual stimulation. The ‘light’ part of the experience uses colored LED light providing stimulation that can lead to psychedelic patterns that morph and transport your mind to interesting and transformative spaces while the ‘sound’ part of a session utilizes binaural beats or isochronic tone pulses to lead your mind toward beneficial structured ranges of mind states.

The Mind Media System is essentially a glorified mp3 player filled with aural sounds that syncs with Kasina’s own Ganzframes Multi-Color eyewear – a back – lit, colored LCD display built into framed glasses that incorporates the most capable Audio Strobe decoder on the market, with 16 different color – mapping presets. To use the device, you simply select one of many session types such as: meditate, focus energy, night voyage, trance, or mind-art and sit back and relax as the meditation aid aims to bring tranquility to your world.

While we have never tested any device of this nature, to say the least we were optimistically curious. We used the product periodically over the past 60 days on those intense days when our minds were racing to see if the products claim of calming the mind held true. Despite looking a little goofy and strangely futuristic when using it, we were pleasantly surprised by the results. We often sought the pre-loaded meditate session and found that it did in fact shift our mood to one that is more at peace with the world and correspondingly helped us find more focus and become more attentive to those around us. In fact, it did bring a welcome sense of stillness to our day. One thing Mindplace says in the product description is that the device works like a tuning fork, tuning your mind into the same frequency you choose in the session and we would say that is an accurate way to describe this device, it helps you find synchronicity with your world (hopefully that doesn’t sound too new age).

Whether or not you believe that light and sound can help you “alter your state of consciousness” is up to you. Could this be a placebo affect from simply taking time out of your day to catch your breath…perhaps, but anything that helps consumers be more attuned and at peace with the world will always be a good buy in our books!
