The Google Pixel Watch was a breath of fresh air in the smartwatch world, blending sleek design with Wear OS goodness. But with the Pixel Watch 2, Google isn’t messing with a winning formula. Instead, they’re supercharging it.
At first glance, you might mistake the Pixel Watch 2 for its predecessor. The classic circular design and minimalist bezels return, but Google shaved some weight with a recycled aluminum body and a thinner (though they assure us, equally tough) cover glass. It’s a subtle change, but it makes a big difference on your wrist. It’s there, but it isn’t. Kind of like that slice of pie you think you didn’t inhale.

The real upgrades are on the inside. Google ditches the somewhat sluggish processor of the original for a zippier one, making everything from scrolling notifications to launching apps feel buttery smooth. But the star of the show? The sensor suite.
The Pixel Watch 2 boasts a new suite of sensors, including a skin temperature sensor and something they call “cEDA,” which measures bioelectrical signals – fancy talk for tracking your stress levels. These join the usual heart rate, GPS, and SpO2 sensors, making the Pixel Watch 2 a well-rounded health and fitness companion.

Speaking of fitness, Google leans even harder on Fitbit this time around. The redesigned Fitbit app takes center stage, offering a more comprehensive view of your workouts, sleep quality, and overall activity. Automatic workout detection is finally here, and it works surprisingly well. Plus, you get access to Fitbit’s excellent stress management tools, which can help you identify and manage those pre-meeting jitters.
The one area where the Pixel Watch 2 falters slightly is battery life. Google claims you’ll get a full day’s charge, and that’s mostly true with regular use. But if you’re a GPS-tracking exercise fiend, you might need to top it up more often. Here’s hoping for even bigger improvements in Gen 3!

If you’re rocking the original Pixel Watch, the upgrade to the Pixel Watch 2 depends on your needs. The faster processor, improved health tracking features, and lighter weight are all welcome improvements. But if you’re happy with your current watch and prioritize long battery life, you might be content to stick with it.
For everyone else, the Pixel Watch 2 is a compelling option. It takes everything we love about the original and injects it with a shot of performance, health-tracking smarts, and a comfortable, lightweight design. It might not be a revolutionary leap forward, but it’s a solid evolution that keeps the Pixel Watch at the forefront of the smartwatch game.
