The COROS Vertix 2S is like that friend who shows up to a camping trip with an axe, a chainsaw, and a portable generator, just to make s’mores. It’s a beast of a watch, overflowing with features, boasting a battery life that makes other GPS watches weep with envy, and built with the kind of ruggedness that could probably survive a direct hit from a meteor. But is it all overkill?

Let’s start with the positives. This thing is an absolute tank. Made from titanium and sapphire glass, it feels like it could survive a nuclear apocalypse. The battery life is simply ridiculous. COROS claims 40 days of regular use, and while I didn’t test that specifically (who has that time?), I can say that I barely had to charge it during a recent 2 week vacation when I forgot my charger but continued to wear it every day. With all satelite dual frequency (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou, QZSS) the GPS accuracy is also excellent, even in challenging terrain. The feature set, too, is staggering; from advanced training metrics and recovery analysis to topographical maps and offline music playback, it’s got everything but the kitchen sink.

The display is a beautiful, sunlight-readable 1.4-inch touchscreen, and the digital crown makes navigating the menus a breeze. The watch also offers a surprisingly comprehensive suite of health metrics, including sleep tracking, blood oxygen monitoring, and even a (somewhat gimmicky) ECG feature. If you’re a data nerd, this watch will give you enough numbers to make your head spin. We are also big fans of their third party support for apps such as Nike Run Club, Komoot, TrainingPeaks, Strava, Relive, adidas Running, Apple Health, Stryd, Final Surge, Runalyze, Running Quotient, Decathlon, syncing your data has never been easier!

Now, for the downsides. Firstly, this watch is massive. It’s like strapping a small hockey puck to your wrist. If you have slender wrists, it might look and feel a bit ridiculous. Secondly, while the touchscreen is generally responsive, it can be a bit finicky at times, especially when wet or sweaty. And finally, the COROS app, while functional, lacks the polish and user-friendliness of some competitors like Garmin Connect.

Overall, the COROS Vertix 2S is an impressive piece of kit. It’s packed with features, built like a tank, and has a battery life that will make you forget what a charger looks like. However, its sheer size and occasional touchscreen quirks might be a turn-off for some. If you’re looking for a rugged, ultra-durable GPS watch with a battery that just won’t quit, and you don’t mind the bulk, the Vertix 2S is worth considering. Just be prepared to explain to everyone why you’re wearing a small computer on your wrist.
