There is only one way to describe Winter in Canada – COLD – and because of this, staying warm is at the top of everyone’s list when it comes to finding appropriate Winter wear. Canadian owned Moose Knuckles, have been keeping Canadians warm since 1921 with garments made for contemporary living that instill good old home-grown know-how, grit and heritage into every fibre, stitch, and zipper.
Being veterans in the industry, the crew at Moose Knuckles pride themselves on impeccable tailoring, luxury materials, hardware and attention to detail that has allowed their brand, as a premium sportswear company, to soar to new heights. This could not be truer than with one of their latest offerings, the Ontario Parka. Being based in Ontario ourselves, this homage to our province ironically carries the tag line “yours to discover” and we surely did discover a lot to like about this Moose Knuckle Parka.
The ‘Ontario’ is a premium Winter coat that strikes the perfect balance between length of the jacket and weight. The coat features a water repellent outer shell with down-proof Nylon lining and a luxurious 800cc 90/10 Goose down fill. The parka also features a detachable hood with silver fox fur lining and heavy duty YKK zippering on the front, sleeves, and sides. There are also convenient chest welted pickets with snaps and lower patch pockets.
Once you see the Ontario parka, one thing is obvious, this is a premium coat that is built to survive the harshest of conditions. The quilted straight fit, conforms nicely to the body and doesn’t make the wearer look bulky or cumbersome and the black rubberized metal company decal lets other know you are wearing a premium brand and really puts a cherry on top as far as aesthetic goes.
After trying the coat out over some frigid conditions these past few weeks, not only does this keep you toasty warm it also looks great too. We might even argue here in the office that if you are a true Canadian, then you should own a parka. Our only criticism with the coat was the primary zipper. We found it quite challenging to zip up with its double zip configuration. Now, this could be chalked up to its ‘new-ness’ and needing to be worked in, but when you are trying to keep the cold out, these extra few seconds can make a difference.
Overall, the Ontario parka exudes excellence and quality of craftsmanship. If you are someone that buys a Winter coat to last you many years, then this is the one to get. Sure, it has an equally hefty price tag but as always, you get what you pay for and there is no price you can put on the importance of staying warm.
