When one thinks of premium athletic wear, especially for men, big name brands like Nike, Adidas, and Reebok come to mind, after all, our department stores are flooded with their products. However, that doesn’t always mean you are getting the best value for money or quality from all the products they sell. Canadian icon: Lululemon, want to change the way consumers approach purchasing activewear by offering innovate technical athletic gear that will make you love your daily sweat again.
Founded by Chip Wilson in Vancouver, Canada in 1998, Lululemon started as a yoga-inspired, technical athletic apparel company for women and men. In fact, their first designs were made for women to wear during yoga. However, in the past 20 years, one vision has driven the company to reach new heights and design gear for running, cycling and more by empowering people to reach their full potential and provide the right tools and resources, while encouraging a culture of leadership, goal setting and personal responsibility. Their latest Summer offerings for men, are a testament to this vision and showcase the companies’ ability to hit the male demographic when it comes to their athletic wear needs and wants.
With those warm Summer days in August, it is the perfect time to get outside and go for a run. Their Pace Breaker short features four way stretch Swift-Ultra fabric that wicks away sweat and offers superior breath-ability. This superior training short features a generous 9-inch inseam and Lycra fibers to make these very stretchy and versatile for pretty much any physical activity.
For those wanting a more conventional running short, there is also their Warp Lite offering, which features an even more breathable mesh construction and comfort fit waistband. The reflective details on hem and hidden media/coin pockets also make this a great accompaniment for those cool evening workouts.
A suitable choice for either of the last two offerings from the company is the Repetition Hoodie. Made from similar four-way stretch and sweat-wicking material, the hoodie features what Lululemon calls Silverscent Technology, that inhibits odor causing bacterial growth in the fabric, to put it simply – it makes the hoodie “anti-stink” and is ideal for indoor and outdoor warm-ups.
In a similar fashion, it may also be worth checking out their popular Metal Vent Tech Half Zip with its mesh construction and Silverscent tech, with added reflective detail and superior stretch-ability, a real highlight of the Metal Vent Tech is its lack of side seams which reduces chaffing on warmer runs. We are big fans of this option and believe it is perfect for the gym or outdoor training.
For those looking for athletic wear that can be worn for comfort alone, there is the Metal Vent Tech Henley and Polo options. The Henley features a similar seamless construction with anti-stink technology but features the classic 3 button Henley design. The garment is perfect as a fancier training attire and even looks great with a pair of track pants or jeans too, a big selling feature is that its construction is Open Knit, meaning, it provides better airflow for the wearer.
The polo on the other hand would be perfect for you golfers out there with its clever strategic venting, four-way stretch fabric, and seamless construction, it not only looks good but keeps you dry and can be worn whenever and wherever.
All these offerings by Lululemon have impressed us with their quality, comfort and style. It has made us rethink the brands we normally buy into and the next time we are looking for active wear, our first stop will be a Lululemon store and it should be yours too!
