Music has become such an integral part of our lives in today’s world of streaming services. There are times when you want to blast those heart pumping tunes with the rest of the world too, but in a sea of choices when it comes to Bluetooth speakers, how do you pick the right one? Audioengine may very well have the answer with their 512 speakers.
Built on the simple premise that the products they build should sound great, be easy to use, and make people want to listen to music every day, Audioengine’s passion is to help people hear all their favorite songs as they were meant to be heard and to discover new music and appreciate it with the highest sound quality and the 512 Portable speaker definitely was a welcome change to our ears.
In a lot of ways, the 512 checks all the right boxes when it comes to portable speakers – great Bluetooth 5.0 range of up to 100ft outdoors or 30ft in, impressive 12-hour battery life and most importantly stellar sound quality. One thing that really sets this device apart from others is that you can stream audio from virtually any media player to the 512 and even connect your device using the convenient and often forgotten about auxiliary input, making this very versatile.
Powering this little pocket rocket is a Class D 20watt amplifier complete with 2” woofers and 3″ x 1.75″ passive radiator these combine for an impressive 10 Ohms, SNR of 90db (typical A-weighted) with a frequency response of 60Hz-20kHz. These are housed in a high impact poly-carbonate cabinet with perforated metal grills – it looks as good as it sounds.
So how does it sound? In a word – great! We were truly taken aback by the punchy bass, balanced mid and crisp highs all with impressive volume output without distortion. We are also big fans of the form factor, it is just the right size to throw in a backpack or cooler when you go camping and because it has that tough outer frame, you don’t have to baby it or be too gentle with it.
Best of all is the price, for such an impressive sound output both in volume and quality, you would expect this thing to cost $300 or more but at just $169, this is truly the steal of the century and a must have this Summer!
