There are not many smartwatches on the market today that we would say look elegant, most are utilitarian looking and are built to track your fitness and give you notifications and not complement your outward appearance. This was until we got our hands on the HUAWEI GT 3, a smartwatch that not only delivers on everything you would expect from a smart accessory in 2022 but it looks dam fine doing it too.

Available in 46mm and 42mm variants, the first thing you notice about the GT 3 is its beautiful 1.3-1.4-inch AMOLED screen, it is bright, vibrant, and pops on the screen. This is flanked by a rotating crown, action button, and a sturdy stainless-steel build paired with a brown leather strap (rubber and steel variations available too). There is also a very convenient – Always-on display (AODs) that can stay awake during daily usage, and custom watch faces also allow exercise data and applications to be easily accessed just by lifting the wrist. The one thing that impressed us the most was the aesthetics of the watch, this combination with the brown leather strap makes it look like a high-end Citizen watch without the cost, and that is a look we think some consumers will love.

Powered by HarmonyOS, the GT 3 now delivers more accurate health and fitness monitoring backed by scientific data as well as a new dynamic interface design. The watch is programmed with over 100 workout modes, including 18 professional workouts, 12 outdoor workouts, and 6 indoor workouts to cater to a wide range of exercise routines. If metrics are your thing, the GT 3 also comes with HUAWEI’S upgraded TruSeen TM 5.0+ advanced heart rate monitoring technology that enables users to accurately keep track of their heart rates even during high-intensity exercises. Acting as a personal trainer on the wrist, the watch will analyze and record data from workouts quickly, generating recommendations on exercise intensity and volume to maximize the benefits of your fitness routine.
One area we feel the GT 3 excels in is with their new AI Running Coach App. This app helps users analyze their behaviour, understand their exercise patterns, and adapt to mobile shifts in training programs. Another new upgrade with this iteration of a smartwatch from HUAWEI is their newest ability measurement – the Running Ability Index (RAI) – which helps to analyze running performance after each session, providing users with on-the-go updates. This paired with the company’s own Healthy Living app can also help track other health metrics such as daily water intake, mindfulness, sleep, and more in the form of small daily challenges.

Lastly, par for the course is the ability to download third-party apps from HUAWEI’s app store but note this is not the Google Play store and not all apps will be available, but the list is growing. You can also receive notifications, and answer Bluetooth phone calls directly on the watch and you get an impressive 7-14 days of battery life on a single charge. What is not to like about that?
To sum up, the combination of features, design, and reasonable price of just $278 at the time of writing this, isn’t it time your smartwatch fits your style instead of you being forced to fit into what vision the company has for theirs?
