Let’s start with a simple yet poignant question – when it comes to your smartwatch or fitness tracker does it have 14-day battery life, five satellite positioning systems, 120+ sports modes, and 24/7 health monitoring features? If you answered no to any or all these questions, then you probably have never heard of Amazfit.

Launched in 2014, Amazfit, set out to make the world more connected through smart wearable technology and data-driven innovations. They made a name for themselves with their Pace, Bip, Stratos, and T-Rex wearables that were well received by the fitness community as an affordable alternative to the Fitbit and Garmin of the world. Offering a wide selection of smartwatches and bands, Amazfit’s brand essence is “Up Your Game”, encouraging users to live their passions and express their active spirits freely. Amazfit smartwatches have won many design awards, including the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award. Now they have returned with a new offering that seamlessly blends the style of a modern smartwatch with the powerful fitness tracking features of a premium fitness tracker for a fraction of the price.

With a jaw-dropping price of just USD 119, do not mistake this as a cheap knock-off fitness watch with some smart features. The super slim and light GTR Mini features a stainless-steel construction paired with a 1.28-inch curved HD AMOLED display and comes with more than 80+ different watch faces for true user customization. It also features a 280 mAh battery that delivers on the promise of up to 14 days of battery life on a single charge.

This statistic is even more impressive when you realize that the watch features Amazfit’s patented circularly polarized GPS antenna technology which picks up almost twice as many satellite signals as regular antennas, the GTR Mini is capable of stronger and more accurate GPS tracking and supports five satellite positioning systems for more global coverage. For the record, this is the same as the Apple Watch Ultra which costs nearly 10 times the amount of this one.

The Mini features 5 ATM water-resistance grading which you will need when you realize that it has support for over 120 sports modes and even automatic recognition of seven of the most common sports (running, cycling, swimming, etc.) This is paired with their BioTracker™ PPG biometric sensor for 24/7 monitoring of blood-oxygen saturation, heart rate, sleep tracking, and even stress levels. This data is also collated in the intuitive Zepp app which provides a good insight into your overall health without making it feel overwhelming. The only feature missing from this device is the capability to make calls and respond to messages which you can on other Amazfit devices, however, you do still get phone and message notifications so you can choose whether or not to take your phone out to respond to them, which I prefer.

To sum up, after using the GTR Mini for the past month it begs to ask the question – do you need to spend all that money on a smartwatch when this one can do 90% of what the others can for a very affordable price? Our answer would be to save your money, Amazfit has created something special here and it is worth your attention.
