The world of foldable smartphones has long been a story of compromise. You could have a tablet in your pocket, but it came with the thickness of a paperback novel and a screen crease that looked like a geological fault line. You could have cutting-edge technology, but you’d need the battery life of a mayfly and the bank account of a tech mogul. With the Find N5, Oppo hasn’t just entered the conversation; it has grabbed the microphone, cleared its throat, and presented a device so impossibly thin and refined that it feels less like an iteration and more like a revolution. This is the foldable that makes you forget you’re carrying a foldable, but its dazzling brilliance does cast a few shadows.

Let’s begin with the star of the show: the design. Calling the Find N5 thin is a profound understatement. When folded, it’s no thicker than a conventional flagship phone, and when unfurled, its 4.2mm profile is barely wider than its USB-C port. This engineering wizardry transforms the user experience, eliminating the pocket-bulging awkwardness that has plagued its predecessors. The magic continues when you open it up to reveal the massive 8.12-inch inner display, where you’ll find… well, almost nothing. The infamous screen crease, the foldable’s original sin, has been so effectively minimized it’s practically a myth. You can’t see it, you can barely feel it, and it makes for an uninterrupted canvas that is simply a joy to use.

This commitment to excellence extends to the dual displays and the battery that powers them. The 6.62-inch cover screen is so well-proportioned that you’ll often forget the phone can even open, handling daily tasks like a traditional device. Both the inner and outer LTPO OLED panels are bright, vibrant, and buttery smooth. Powering these two expansive screens is a herculean 5,600mAh battery that defies the phone’s slender frame. The Find N5 boasts a stamina that puts many conventional phones to shame, easily lasting through a heavy day of use. When you do finally need to top up, the 80W wired and 50W wireless charging are blisteringly fast, ensuring you’re never tethered for long.

However, in the quest for ultimate thinness, a sacrifice had to be made, and it seems the camera system drew the short straw. While the 50MP main and 50MP telephoto lenses, co-developed with Hasselblad, are perfectly capable of producing pleasing, vibrant shots in good lighting, the camera array feels like a step back from its predecessor. The most glaring issue is the 8MP ultrawide lens, a spec that feels entirely out of place on a premium flagship. It gets the job done for a wide-angle snap, but the results are noticeably softer and less detailed, a clear compromise that prevents the Find N5 from truly competing with the camera kings.

The performance is another area with a slight asterisk. The phone is powered by a potent Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a generous 16GB of RAM, making day-to-day navigation and multitasking feel instantaneous and fluid. However, this is a 7-core variant of the chip, not the full 8-core version, and the ultra-slim chassis struggles with heat dissipation during intense, prolonged gaming sessions, leading to some thermal throttling. While it’s more than powerful enough for the vast majority of users, power gamers might feel the heat.

Ultimately, the Oppo Find N5 is a breathtaking piece of technology and arguably the best-designed foldable on the planet. It’s a device that feels like it’s from the future, delivering on the promise of a two-in-one device without the traditional compromises in form-factor and battery life. However, its biggest flaw might be its most frustrating: its limited global availability makes it a forbidden fruit for countless potential buyers. It’s a phenomenal phone with an underwhelming ultrawide camera and a ghost-like presence in the global market. The Find N5 is a masterpiece of design, but for many, it will remain a masterpiece admired only from afar.
